Our first wrap-pattern is about the birth of a new life, about creation. The basis of this pattern is the tree of life, which is a symbol of creation, creative power and cyclically renewed eternal life.It starts with two birds, who create the seed. From this seed comes the tree of life, which carries the potential for descendants. As with every plant, the tree is striving for the sky, the sun or the Creator. This all forms a whole cycle which, as it is repeated, strengthens the natural order of life.
The archaic folk prayer associated with this pattern has its origins before the Christian era and it brings us back to the magical world of words. It has the power of ancient knowledge, struck through with Christian content.
This pattern is special for us, because this is our first. After the conception of our second child, we first played with the thought of carrying her/him in our own homemade woven wrap. Then the dream came true. I knew at the beginning of the design process that the theme would be about creating a new life. From the first moment, I saw the wrap in blue (this is why it was first released in blue), though I did not know if I was carrying a boy or girl under my heart. This blue, the color of live-giving water, was so strong in me, that I started searching, looking at and studying textiles painted in blue.
There is a specific Hungarian term for this kind of traditional blue textile, blueprint: “kékfestő”: (literally, “painted-in-blue”). Their delicate lines are strongly reflected in this pattern.
